Product Description

Senior Cat Food

Senior cat food is appropriate for cats from the age of 7-8 years old onwards. This is because their nutritional requirements start to change and they can become less active. In addition their metabolism starts to slow down. Furthermore they often start to spend more time indoors, enjoying home comforts! Easterbrooks Senior cat food has been developed to support cats in this stage of their life. This is achieved by using high quality, digestible proteins. Moreover, reducing the calorie content of the food helps to control weight gain whilst L-Carnitine helps the body to burn fat as a form of energy. L-Carnitine also promotes the maintenance of healthy, lean muscles as your cat ages.

It will be no surprise to cat owners to hear that cats can be fussy! More often that not this doesn’t improve with age. As a result, Easterbrooks Senior cat food uses a combination of Chicken and Salmon proteins. This helps to provide an enticing aroma and flavour to keep your cat interested in their food. As cats age, their ability to smell and taste food can decline. Therefore offering a tempting bowl of food is vital to keep them well nourished.

Chicken is a quality, lean source of protein that is rich in essential amino acids. It is also a great source of vitamins and minerals including B vitamins and Iron. Both of these are important for overall health and well-being. Similarly, Salmon has beneficial vitamins and minerals but is also a great source of Omega 3 fatty acids and niacin. Omega 3 supports skin, coat and joint function. Niacin is one of the B vitamin group and cannot be made by the cat themselves. Therefore they need to get it from what they eat. Otherwise a deficiency of Niacin can cause, amongst other things loss of appetite, weight loss, inflamed gums and haemorrhagic diarrhoea. So it is rather important!

Support for Senior Cats

In addition to the role of Omega 3 in the diet, Chondroitin, Glucosamine and MSM have been added to Easterbrooks Senior cat food. These 3 supplements are key to supporting and maintaining healthy joints for as long as possible. The more your cat is able to move and jump freely, the better it is for their weight management and consequently heart health. To further benefit the heart, Taurine levels are increased. Taurine is an essential amino acid for cats which is crucial in their diet. Added Vitamin A, which is an essential vitamin for cats, helps to support vision and skin function. Finally the inclusion of cellulose and beet pulp which are both sources of insoluble fibre, help to reduce hairballs.

Senior Cat Food Feeding Guidelines

Easterbrooks Senior Cat Food feeding guide.

Easterbrooks Senior Cat Food feeding guide.

As with any food, wet or dry, feeding guidelines should not be strictly adhered to. They are there to provide a rough guide as to approximate feeding amounts. Use the guide to estimate feeding portions for your cat based on their weight and then adjust as necessary. Note, if your cat is neutered, reduce suggested feeding guidelines by about 10% to account for this.
